If you're new to poker, the single most important thing to learn is starting hand selection. Not every two cards you're dealt are worth playing. In Texas Hold'em, premium hands – Ace-Ace, King-King, Queen-Queen, Ace-King – should be played aggressively from any position. Medium pairs and suited connectors have value in the right situations. Weak, disconnected hands with poor kicker potential should usually be folded.
